Winners of 2023 Civic Awards Announced

The Mayor of Felixstowe presented the Civic Awards on 10 May at The Annual Town Meeting, hosted at the Orwell Hotel.

The scheme, administered by the Town Council, recognises the contribution of those residents of Felixstowe who regularly go above and beyond for their local community. Each year, up to five Mayor’s Awards are presented to individuals in recognition of their efforts towards the community of Felixstowe. The HMS Ganges Youth Trophy highlights the outstanding contribution of a young person, aged 21 years or under, to the town. The Community Award highlights the role of a local community group or organisation to Felixstowe.

Announced at Felixstowe Town Council’s Annual Town Meeting on 10 May, the winners of the 2023 Civic Awards are as follows:

Mayor’s Awards:

Wendy Tolliday and Isabel Jenkins

For their voluntary work through Felixstowe Mencap.

Carolyn Jones

For her voluntary work via St Phillip’s Community Hub.

Nigel Odin

For his voluntary work at Landguard Nature Reserve (Award collected by Leonie Washington).

Sarah Fitch

For provision of support offered to the local community via Cuppa Café.

Laura Baalham

For her role in Felixstowe Air Cadets and as a First Aider.

 

HMS Ganges Youth Trophy:

Cameron Cammel

For his participation in Felixstowe School’s Garden Club and care demonstrated towards the local environment.

 

Community Award:

Ukraine2Felixstowe

For the provision of support offered to the Ukrainian Guests in Felixstowe following Russia’s ongoing, illegal invasion of Ukraine (Award collected on behalf of Kim and Dee Balshaw)

Coronation Awards

The 2023 Civic Awards also saw a number of residents presented with Coronation Awards, in recognition of a nationally significant year and Felixstowe’s fierce community spirit. Coronation Awards were presented to

Diana Barnard, Michael Sharman, Charles Wright, Jean Macpherson, Rob Dunger, Richard Lord, Debbie Bartlett, Pushchair Pitstop, Visit Felixstowe Volunteers, Suzanne Banks, Mollie Bennett, Katie Mitton and Libby Bone.

With special recognition shown to Tim Lukehurst via a Posthumous Coronation Award in recognition of his role in the formation of Litter-Free Felixstowe.
