Closure of Marks & Spencer Store

Posted by Town Hall Staff 07 February 2019

Despite our best efforts I was disappointed to receive the following from  David Leach,  Government Affairs Manager,  Marks & Spencer PLC

“Dear Cllr Newman and Cllr Holdcroft,

I am writing to inform you that a decision has now been made to proceed with the closure of the M&S store in Felixstowe.

The consultation process with employees has reached the stage where the proposal to close the store has been accepted. The final day of trading at the store will be Saturday 27th April.

We are continuing to consult on the people impact of the closure and colleagues will either be redeployed or offered redeployment to other M&S stores before redundancy is considered. In any case, we will have detailed discussions with colleagues in the coming weeks to determine what is best for their individual circumstances.

We recognise that you will be very disappointed by the store closure, but we are convinced it is the right commercial decision for M&S for the reasons we have previously explained.”

Sad news for employees and store. We look forward now to who might take over this unique opportunity.
