Felixstowe Town Council proudly raised the Armed Forces Day flag at the Town Hall this week ahead of Armed Forces Day, which takes place on 27 June, to show its support for the men and women who make up the Armed Forces community.
The flag-raising ceremony serves as a visible reminder of the town’s appreciation for serving personnel, veterans, reservists, cadets and military families. Armed Forces Day provides an opportunity for communities across the UK to come together and pay tribute to those who have dedicated their lives to protecting the nation.
The Mayor of Felixstowe said: “Today we come together to recognise the men and women who serve our country in the Royal Navy, the Army and the Royal Air Force. We also honour our veterans, our reservists, our cadet forces and the families who support them. Their dedication, professionalism and willingness to put service before self are things we should never take for granted.
As someone with a background in the Armed Forces, this moment holds real personal meaning for me. My own brother is still serving today, and like so many families across the country, we understand the pride, the worry and the strength that come with having a loved one in uniform. The values that underpin our Armed Forces, including duty, courage, respect and commitment, are the same values that strengthen our communities here in Felixstowe.
We are especially mindful today of those who are currently deployed on active operations around the world. They carry out their duties with professionalism and resolve, often in challenging and dangerous circumstances, and they do so on behalf of us all. Our thoughts are with them and with their families who wait for their safe return.
We are proud of the strong links our town has with the Armed Forces community. From the Royal British Legion to our cadet forces and the many families in Felixstowe with loved ones serving today, this is a town that understands service and stands firmly behind those who give it.
Raising this flag is a simple act, but it carries deep meaning. It is our way of saying thank you. Thank you to those currently serving. Thank you to those who have served. And thank you to the families, employers, volunteers and organisations who support them every step of the way.
As the flag rises, let it remind us of the courage, commitment and sacrifice of our Armed Forces. And let it remind us of our responsibility to support them, not just today but every day.
Thank you for being here, and thank you to all who serve our country with pride.”
Felixstowe Town Council is proud to support Armed Forces Day and encourages residents to take a moment on 27 June to recognise the contribution of our Armed Forces, veterans and their families, both past and present.
