Hamilton Road Shared Space: Experimental Traffic Order to be made permanent

A Traffic Order has been made by Suffolk County Council to prevent motor vehicles from entering the  pedestrianised section of Hamilton Road from 10am to 4pm daily.

In the Summer of 2020, Suffolk County Council installed an experimental traffic order that prevented motor vehicles from accessing the former Shared-Space area of Hamilton Road between 10am & 4pm. Following surveys and consultation, an Order has been made to make it permanent. This means that no motor vehicles will be allowed to pass through Hamilton Road Shared Space between 10am to 4pm daily, only permitting parking by blue badge holders and loading vehicles outside of these hours. The removal of traffic provides a safer cleaner shopping environment allowing outside seating and dining, and the space for shoppers to move around knowing the area is traffic free.
