Raising the Flag for Armed Forces Weekend followed by a moment of reflection for the centenary of the Battle of Passchendaele – Monday 19th June 2017.
To recognise the huge contribution made by our servicemen and women, Felixstowe has been chosen as the venue for Suffolk Armed Forces Day this year. 2017 also represents the 350th anniversary of the Dutch attack on Landguard Fort in Felixstowe and to mark these occasions a programme of action packed entertainment is planned for the weekend of Saturday 24th and Sunday 25th June.
In the lead up to the event, on Monday 19th June the Armed Forces flag will be raised by the Mayor of Felixstowe in the Town Hall Gardens at 10am.
Following the flag raising, in commemoration of the centenary of the Battle of Passchendaele, the Town Council and the Royal British Legion will be holding a short service at the War Memorial across the road. At the service the Mayor of Felixstowe will lay a white cross as we reflect on the loss of over 245,000 Allied and 215,000 German casualties during approximately 100 days of heavy fighting on the front line.
Members of the public are very welcome to attend these events and are advised to convene at the Town Hall Gardens for the flag raising at 9.55am.
