Felixstowe Town Council Raises Fairtrade Flag and Launches Schools Video

Posted by Town Hall Staff 22 September 2025

Felixstowe Town Council proudly raised the Fairtrade flag at the Town Hall this morning to mark the start of Fairtrade Fortnight. The ceremony was led by the Mayor of Felixstowe, Cllr Corrine Franklin, accompanied by the Mayor’s Cadet, Flight Sgt. Frazer Lack, alongside representatives from the Felixstowe Fairtrade Forum.

Following the flag raising, guests were welcomed into the Town Hall for the official launch of a new Fairtrade Schools video, showcasing the work of local schools over the past year. The project was developed in partnership with the Town Council’s Youth Forum, which contributed ideas and received regular updates, with its role acknowledged in the film.

The video also includes highlights from the launch of Felixstowe’s first Fairtrade chocolate bar, held at the Town Hall in July. Developed by the Felixstowe Fairtrade Forum with support from Felixstowe BID and the Town Council, the chocolate bar has been warmly received in local shops and is already helping to raise the profile of Fairtrade in the town.

Mayor of Felixstowe, Cllr Corrine Franklin, said:

“Felixstowe is proud to be a Fairtrade Town, and today’s events show how our community continues to embrace that responsibility. The flag raising, the schools’ video, and the success of the new Fairtrade chocolate bar are excellent examples of how schools, businesses, and residents can work together to support fairness, sustainability, and global responsibility. I am especially grateful to the Felixstowe Fairtrade Forum and to our young people, whose energy and creativity are keeping Fairtrade very much alive in Felixstowe.”

Felixstowe has been recognised as a Fairtrade Town since 2009 and is one of nine Fairtrade towns in Suffolk. The Felixstowe Fairtrade Forum, established in 2007, continues to encourage local engagement and welcomes new supporters to get involved in its work.

Fairtrade Fortnight activities in Felixstowe continue with a Fairtrade Family Funday at Felixstowe Library on Saturday 27 September.
