Felixstowe Explores UK Town of Culture Opportunity – Have Your Say!

Posted by Town Hall Staff 06 February 2026

Felixstowe Town Council is pleased to announce that the town is exploring an Expression of Interest to take part in the inaugural UK Town of Culture 2028 competition, a new national initiative celebrating the cultural identity, creativity, and heritage of towns across the country.

Building on the success of the UK City of Culture programme, the competition aims to shine a spotlight on places with strong cultural stories and ambitious community-led ideas. As a town that serves as a vital gateway to the world, Felixstowe is uniquely positioned to tell a story of national and international significance.

Felixstowe has a rich and diverse cultural offer, from its historic seaside charm and heritage to its unrivalled role on the global stage. The Town Council believes this competition presents an exciting opportunity to celebrate our unique “World in a Town” identity while supporting future cultural development and community pride.

The deadline for submitting an Expression of Interest is 31 March. Before a final submission is made, the Town Council wants to hear directly from residents, organisations, and businesses across the town.

Local voices are essential in shaping any potential bid. Whether you’re involved in arts, heritage, music, events, youth activities, or simply have ideas about what Felixstowe’s culture means to you, your views matter. We are particularly keen to hear from our younger residents to ensure the bid reflects the aspirations of the next generation.

How to have your say: Complete the Public Survey or the Young People’s Survey.

The surveys are quick to complete and open to everyone who lives, works, or has a connection to Felixstowe. This is an opportunity to come together and help shape Felixstowe’s cultural future on the national stage.
