BARGAIN HUNTERS SEEK TREASURE FOR THE MAYOR’S CHARITIES

Teams representing ten local charities will be diving into the shops of Felixstowe to hunt for items to sell at a charity auction with all profits going to good causes supported by the town’s Mayor.

After the shopping spree – which could see up to £1,000 spent in local shops – all items will be sold at an auction at a Cheese and Wine Gala event, held in the historic Landguard Fort on 5 September.

Felixstowe’s iconic Landguard Fort will host the Cheese and Wine Gala

Felixstowe Mayor Cllr David Rowe’s chosen charities for the year are Breast Friends CIC, a charity offering support to women affected by breast cancer, and the Landguard Trust which works to protect and enhance Landguard Nature Reserve, Landguard Fort and Felixstowe Museum.

While the bargain hunt event aims to make the most of Felixstowe’s unique collection of shops, the bargain hunters can buy anything they like with the hope of turning a profit at auction. The hunt will start from the Triangle in Hamilton Road on Saturday, August 31 at 10.30 am and each team will have just two hours to spend £100.

The Cheese and Wine Gala will take place on the evening of 5 September from 6.30 pm, when guests can try a selection of Adnams wines, expertly paired with delicious cheese from Felixstowe-local restaurant Alba Chiara in the magnificent setting of Landguard Fort. As well as the auction, there will be live entertainment from Asha Louise, and an opportunity to see some of the Fort’s antiquities.

There will be cash prizes for the charities who raise the most money. The winning team will receive £500 for their cause, while the runners up will walk away £300 and the team in third place will take home £200.

Cllr Rowe said he hoped the people of Felixstowe would cheer on the charity shoppers and support the auction.

This is a new event for Felixstowe, and it should be a lot of fun for everyone involved. Spending money in the town will not only benefit the shops and shine a light on our town centre, but hopefully turn up some great lots for the auction.

“We really hope everyone gets into the spirit of the occasion and help raise the profile of our great town and all the charities involved.

Organisers would also like to thank sponsors Maritime Transport, Adnams and Alba Chiara.

Tickets for the event are £25 each, with discounts available for group and early bird bookings. Discounted tickets can be purchased for £20 using the code ‘OFFER20’.
