The Annual Town Meeting and Annual Council Meeting have both been rescheduled and brought forward to Wednesday 5th May.
At its Council meeting of 10th March, Felixstowe Town Council agreed to reschedule hold the Annual Town Meeting and the Annual Council Meeting to Wednesday 5th May 2021, before temporary regulations permitting remote meetings expire on 7th May.
The Government introduced temporary regulations last year to allow remote/online meetings in response to the Coronavirus pandmic. However, without any further action from the government, all local authorities including town and parish councils must return to face-to-face meetings from 7 May. Town and parish councils are required to hold their annual council meeting in May each year and host an annual parish/town meeting between 1 March – 1 June (inclusive).
In recent years, the Council’s Civic Awards event has formed part of the Annual Town Meeting. Notwithstanding the regulations around annual meetings, given the circumstances surrounding the pandemic and lockdown, the Town Council has agreed to postpone the 2021 Civic Awards until later in the year, at such a time when a public event to celebrate local community heroes is more appropriate.
