Mayor of Felixstowe Presents 2024 Civic Awards

Felixstowe Town Council Civic Awards 2024

Felixstowe Town Council is delighted to announce this year’s Civic Awards winners, presented by the Mayor of Felixstowe for 2023-2, Cllr Seamus Bennett, at the Annual Town Meeting held at Felixstowe School on 8 May 2024.

     

The winners are, in no particular order, as follows:

Mayors Awards

Keith Horn

For continued community service and voluntary efforts, including involvement with Old Felixstowe Community Association, the Felixstowe Chamber of Trade and Commerce, the Felixstowe Society, Felixstowe Rotary and the Ferry Road Allotments.

Laura Locke

For her role in organising WAMFest, her broadcasting commitment to Felixstowe Radio, and her support of local women’s art and music.

Steve Porter

For his years of dedication to Felixstowe Carnival.

Lyndon Hunt

For his role as a voluntary Community Responder for over 10 years and coordinating the group for 2 years.

David Martin

For running Felixstowe Judo Club for over 16 years.

HMS Ganges Youth Trophy

Jake and Logan Croakin

For their fundraising efforts, inspired whilst caring for their father, to run over 100km in one month to fundraise over £10,000 in aid of leukaemia support.

The Community Award

Breast Friends CIC – Caroline Sturman and Janine Aldis.

For providing support to those affected by breast cancer.

At the event the Mayor also announced that a total of £27,395 had been raised in support of his four chosen charities. Felixstowe NCI, Felixstowe Coast Patrol and Rescue, Pushchair Pitstop and Boost Felixstowe Youth Group.

Special Commendations were awarded to Roy Gray, for his service to Felixstowe Community Hospital League of Friends, and Remus Chinery, for his volunteer work for Litter-Free Felixstowe and Pushchair Pitstop, service as Head Boy at Langer School and selfless fundraising efforts in support of those diagnosed with cancer.

Cllr Seamus Bennett, Mayor of Felixstowe, said: “The annual Mayor’s Civic Awards, presented at Felixstowe Town Council’s Annual Town Meeting, provide an important opportunity to recognise and highlight the work of those members of the Felixstowe community who regularly go above the call of duty to help others. Felixstowe is a town defined by empathy and a strong community spirit, which the Civic Awards aims to highlight. We receive many worthy nominations, so selecting the winners is always a challenging process, but the broad range of nominations truly emphasises the strength of the town”.
