A well-used, but unadopted, alleyway in Felixstowe has been cleared to ensure it remains safe for people to use as a cut-through to the town’s high street.
The alleyway, which runs from Hamilton Road to the Library, has long been used as a cut-through to the town’s high street but was becoming unsafe due to fly-tipped waste and weeds making it hard for users to practice social distancing.
As a result, East Suffolk Council and Felixstowe Town Council worked together to ensure the site was cleared of rubbish and obstructions by East Suffolk Norse, so that it remains safe to use as more shops are starting to reopen in line with the Government’s guidelines.
Cllr Steve Wiles, local ward member for Eastern Felixstowe, said: “East Suffolk Norse did a splendid job at clearing up the alleyway so it is safe for the public to continue to use in line with the official guidance on social distancing. I hope that the surrounding properties and users alike will do their bit to ensure it stays clean and safe for everyone to use.”
The exact ownership of the site is unknown, so East Suffolk Council, Felixstowe Town Council and Suffolk County Council are working together to gain more information and details about the site before considering what options might be available to enhance the area in the future.
