The Mayor of Felixstowe, Cllr David Rowe, is supporting two charities, Breast Friends CIC, and The Landguard Trust for the year 2024-25. Breast Friends CIC support breast cancer patients from diagnosis, during treatment, surgery and beyond. October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, providing a fantastic opportunity to raise funds and awareness for this important cause. In recognition of this important month, a number of cafés and bars in Felixstowe and the surrounding area have pledged a donation, or percentage of the profit from each coffee sold, to Breast Friends CIC to support their work.
Participating venues include:
- The Boardwalk on Felixstowe Pier
- Lotty’s Tearoom on High Road East
- Angel Inn in Walton
- Wool Baa (who already provide knitted items in support of Breast Friends)
- Little Ice Cream Company on Undercliff Road West
- Bar 129 on Undercliff Road West
- The Greenhouse Café on Orwell Road
The businesses making a donation will display a pink poster in the window of their establishment, to indicate their support.
The Mayor of Felixstowe, Cllr David Rowe, said:
“It is a privilege to be working with Breast Friends CIC, who provide important support and a sense of community to those have been diagnosed with breast cancer. I am incredibly grateful to the businesses in Felixstowe who have already generously pledged to donate or who have offered their support. More are welcome! So if you own or manage a coffee shop and would like to take part, please contact us at mayor@felixstowe.gov.uk. If you are a regular customer at a particular café or bar, why not ask them if they would consider signing up? Even a small donation goes a long way to help supporting those being treated for breast cancer. Let’s come together as a community to support this worthy cause”.
An official launch in recognition of the scheme to support for Breast Cancer Awareness Month will take place on 30 September 2024 at 11am at The Boardwalk Café Bar on Felixstowe Pier. The Mayor of Felixstowe and representatives from his chosen charities will be in attendance, along with representatives from the businesses participating the scheme. The event will include a photo opportunity. Members of the public and the press are invited to join us for this event.
