Coronation Awards

The 2023 Civic Awards also saw a number of residents presented with Coronation Awards, in recognition of a nationally significant year and Felixstowe’s fierce community spirit. Coronation Awards were presented to

Diana Barnard, Michael Sharman, Charles Wright, Jean Macpherson, Rob Dunger, Richard Lord, Debbie Bartlett, Pushchair Pitstop, Visit Felixstowe Volunteers, Suzanne Banks, Mollie Bennett, Katie Mitton and Libby Bone.

With special recognition shown to Tim Lukehurst via a Posthumous Coronation Award in recognition of his role in the formation of Litter-Free Felixstowe.

For the outstanding Effort of both staff and volunteers at The Grove Medical Centre in administering the COVID-19 vaccination rollout.

For his creation of the Dare to Dip community to help people’s mental health and also the  money he has raised for Anxiety UK so far.

For her Allenby park walk to raise money for the NHS, and also raising the spirit on the community, inspiring happiness and hope in Felixstowe during a difficult time.

Sally Gallant

For her fundamental work at Memory Lane since its inception. During the difficulties imposed by the pandemic, Sally took steps to keep the group connected via Zoom. Sally then restarted Memory Lane on 2 July 2021. Sally’s continued commitment in entirely voluntary capacity has provided essential care and support to so many people during the challenges imposed by the pandemic.

Jackie Fincham

For her voluntary service as a  Christmas Day Coordinator at the Salvation Army. As part of her role, Jackie provided a fantastic Christmas lunch for over 80 people. With her keen eye for detail, she always  ensures that guests have the best possible experience.

For his work in setting up the Parish Pantry, and going above and beyond to ensure that the Parish Pantry is well-stocked and that those using its services are always provided for

For her online community work during the pandemic. Establishing ‘Yasmin Cakes and Bakes’, an online community recipe resource, and ‘Felixstowe Lockdown Penpals’ – a Facebook page to encourage people to write to each other during the pandemic to reduce loneliness.

Litter Free Felixstowe

For their tireless efforts to keep Felixstowe clean, and increasing awareness of personal responsibility, connecting with schools, businesses and many other organisations to educate everyone to be more proactive and environmentally conscious.

Felixstowe Helping Hands

Assisting the community during the pandemic, over 500 volunteers helped with tasks like shopping and medication deliveries.

For his outstanding contribution over many years to The Felixstowe Society of Allotment & Leisure Gardeners, following his decision to retire as its Chairman this year.

Valerie Norman

For her work in forming the group ‘Lung at Heart’ 6 years ago and supporting over 40 local people to regularly meet, exercise and socialise in addition to her role as staff nurse, caring patients with lung disease at Ipswich Hospital.

Lynn Osborne

For her dedication to Felixstowe Area Community Transport (FACTS) as a volunteer and the organiser of a monthly lunch club for up to 50 passengers who may not otherwise have the chance to socialise.

Joy Reeve

Joy has opened her beach hut and, with her friend Karen Kenny, served refreshments to the public for a number of years, inviting donations which have raised thousands of pounds for different charities

David Tennant

For his stalwart volunteer work with Felixstowe Art Group, Old Felixstowe Carpet Bowls and for running, together with his wife, the M.E. and Fibromyalgia group ‘Positive Pals’.

Guy was recognised for overcoming extreme adversity in his early years and his volunteering with the Felixstowe Volunteer Coast Patrol Rescue Service, which benefitted from his crucial involvement in the rescue of three people in serious need

For their dedication to community broadcasting in Felixstowe for over 10 years, giving local presenters the opportunity to keep the community up to date with major events, local business activities, charities, voluntary groups, musicians, and artists.

For her work with the Felixstowe Society which has included helping to produce a Poppy Trail and exhibition at Old Felixstowe Parish Church archiving and working to produce numerous local books on various historical events in the town.

For his work volunteer with the Felixstowe CCTV team since 2009 and acts as co-ordinator with the Town Pastors, the police control room and officers on patrol.

For her dedicated work with Felixstowe Area Community Transport (FACTS) as a driver working in the office and as a Trustee.

For his outstanding contribution to the Felixstowe Coastal Rescue Team, attending more than 430 emergency call outs.

For her dedicated work with the Felixstowe Museum and its volunteers as Chairman and more recently as Committee Member.

Rob Rushen-Smith

For his outstanding contribution to the Felixstowe Scouting Group for over 40 years as well as starting the 8th Felixstowe Scout Group over 25 years ago.

Sue Simmons

Instrumental in the running of support groups for people living with dementia in Felixstowe.

For his hard work within the Level Two Youth Project as well as volunteering as a representative at the Suffolk Assembly of Youth.  He is a keen leader and speaker and helps young people attending Level Two Youth Project by supporting them in their open sessions.

For improving the local community by reducing social isolation by providing meals, free confidential health checks, food bank provision, assistance with job searching, British Sign Language courses and much more.
